On October 14, Mr. Katsuya Okada, Chair of Comprehensive Policy Council on Foreign and Security Affairs of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan (CDP), received a courtesy call from a delegation of the UK–Japan Parliamentary Group at the National Diet.
Also present on the CDP side were Mr. Kentaro Genma, Next Minister for Foreign Affairs; Mr. Go Shinohara, Next Minister for Defense; and Members of the House of Representatives Akihiro Matsuo and Yosuke Suzuki. From the United Kingdom, four parliamentarians participated, representing the Labour Party, the Conservative Party, and the Liberal Democrats.
Mr. Okada noted that during his visit to the United Kingdom in September he exchanged views with former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and former Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt, and stated that he hopes to further deepen networks among parliamentarians through dialogue with the visiting delegation.
During the meeting, the participants confirmed the importance of strengthening Japan–UK cooperation across a wide range of fields, including defense cooperation, economic and science and technology collaboration, and cultural exchange.
They also held a frank exchange of views on social challenges shared by both countries, including immigration policy, an aging society, youth participation in politics, and child poverty. By sharing policy experience and initiatives, the meeting served as a meaningful opportunity to deepen mutual understanding.
The Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan will continue to work to build cooperation and trust with the international community through dialogue among legislators.
