On January 28, President Noda Yoshihiko received a courtesy visit from UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu, who came to Japan from New York, at the party headquarters. Secretary-General Ogawa Junya, Next Minister for Foreign Affairs Takemasa Koichi, International Department Director-General Genma Kentaro, and Next Minister for Gender, Coexistence and Loneliness Yoshida Harumi also attended the meeting.

At the beginning, Deputy Secretary-General Nakamitsu expressed concern about the worsening security environment in recent years, but pointed out the possibility of progress in disarmament, saying, "There is a shared understanding that an endless arms race will not benefit anyone, and that is where things will move forward." She also expressed her expectations for Japan's leadership in the UN. Noda expressed his understanding, saying, "In a world where the international situation has become increasingly tense, Japan must take the lead in promoting international cooperation," and stressed, "Japan must make an extra effort in its efforts with the United Nations, international frameworks, the Paris Agreement and the WHO."

During the meeting, the two leaders exchanged views on the Trump administration, the international situation, UN reform, the future of AI and other topics.
