As this year marks the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and Korea, the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan is sending a two-day delegation to Korea from January 16th. As the political situation in Korea is fluid and government-to-government exchanges are difficult, the delegation, consisting of Shigenori Kazuhiko, Chairman of the Policy Research Council, Genma Kentaro, Director General of the International Department, and Onishi Kensuke, Chairman of the Tax System Research Council, will meet with important figures such as foreign affairs officials from the ruling and opposition parties and experts on Japan policy to promote diplomacy by lawmakers.
They will exchange views on Korean domestic politics, Japan-Korea relations, the situation in Northeast Asia, and inter-party exchanges with Kim Seok-ki, a People Power lawmaker and chairman of the National Assembly Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, and Yoon Ho-jung, a Democratic Party lawmaker and chairman of the National Assembly Korea-Japan Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Forum, among others. As the security environment surrounding our country becomes increasingly severe, they will confirm the importance of maintaining Japan-Korea relations and Japan-US-Korea relations, and will strengthen friendly and cooperative relations between Japan and Korea through party diplomacy.
