President of the Constitutional Democratic Party
Yoshihiko Noda
On behalf of the Constitutional Democratic Party, I would like to express my heartfelt congratulations on the election of Lee Jae-myung as the 21st President of the Republic of Korea.
We deeply respect South Korea's mature democracy and the strong political participation of its people, and sincerely hope that under the new President Lee, South Korea will achieve further stability and development.
As neighbouring countries that share fundamental values such as democracy, the rule of law, and human rights, Japan and South Korea have deepened cooperation across various fields, including the economy, security, and people-to-people exchanges, while addressing historical issues.
Given the recent challenging security environment in the Asia-Pacific region, stronger cooperation between Japan, the United States, and South Korea is increasingly necessary, and we will work together to achieve this. Cooperation between Japan and South Korea should serve as the foundation for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
I sincerely hope to further develop a future-oriented Japan-South Korea relationship alongside President Lee. The Constitutional Democratic Party will continue to prioritise inter-party dialogue with South Korean political parties, including the ‘Together Democratic Party,’ and strive to build a bridge of diplomacy based on trust and understanding.
