The Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan appeals for the inhumanity of nuclear weapons and is actively involved in international efforts to realize a world without nuclear weapons. From March 2 to 6, 2025, we sent House of Councilors member Morimoto Shinji (elected from Hiroshima) on behalf of the party to the 3rd Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA.

While the Japanese government decided not to participate in the plenary session as an observer, Councilor Morimoto spoke at a UN panel for the first time as a Japanese member of the Diet, appealing for the inhumanity of nuclear weapons from the perspective of a country that has been bombed, and clearly refuting the argument for limited nuclear use. In addition, through discussions with members of parliament from various countries such as France, Canada, and Norway, interactions with civil society and young people, and exchanges of opinions with UN officials, this visit to the United States reaffirmed the importance of cooperation between parliamentary diplomacy and civil society.
